Intrinsys signs reseller agreement with Altair

From the start of 2009 Intrinsys will be the sole reseller for the CATIA/HyperShape product in the UK. The product allows designers to create structurally optimal design concepts based on packaging information, loads, constraints and required product performance. Intrinsys have looked at various optimisation tools in the past but feel that HyperShape offers significant advantages over other products and the fact that it is fully integrated into CATIA makes it even more attractive. The product sits inside CATIA and is accessed as an extension of the existing analysis workbench. Customers might have heard the product referred to as Optistruct, which is the stand alone product without the CATIA integration.

In its simplest form the product works by analysing a component against user defined constraints and load cases. The software then takes the areas of very low stress and assigns a extremely low value of modulus of elasticity to this region, so the material has no significant ability to support load. In this way the software is able to iterate and converge on a shape where material has been removed from the design without adversely affecting the design intent.
