Business Issues facing the AEC industry

Program Management

The success of a project often relates to the achievements of the program management. The project starts with definition of the specification and formulation of time scales. This is followed by surveying, commitment to contractors and so on throughout the project.

All these activities are carried out across a number of sites, using numerous software tools, MS Word for specifications, MS Project for planning, Outlook for communication.

The challenge of program management is to ensure that the activities occur in the correct sequence, at the correct time, to the correct standard, all within budget.

Just 36 years old, Thomas Heatherwick has already established himself as one of the most exciting and innovative figures in British design. He is perhaps most famous for his sculpture, The B Of The Bang, in Manchester. Heatherwick Studio is pushing the boundaries of architecture, sculpture and product design by combining all three with innovative free thinking and not letting existing construction techniques curb ambition.
