What is all the fuss about V6?

Dassault Systemes has announced PLM 2.0 operating on its new V6 platform. How does this affect CATIA V5 and does this mean that CATIA V6 is just round the corner?

PLM 2.0 is essentially a 3D online environment which allows everybody to interact with products in a virtual environment and generate Intellectual Property. V6 is Dassault Systemes next generation platform on which PLM 2.0 is based.

Until recently, data created within CATIA had limited exposure outside the design environment. The vision that PLM 2.0 supports is providing the tools to allow any user to imagine, share and experience products within the universal language of 3D.

“With V6, Intellectual Property can be put to use immediately via ‘networked’ PLM solutions, so that anybody can ‘test drive’ a virtual product in the real world.” explains Bernard Charles, president and CEO, Dassault Systemes. “Online collaboration and content authoring is critical for businesses these days, whilst working globally around the clock is also necessary in today’s business climate. V6 enables people to work together concurrently in real time via a simple Web connection. The 3D interface and user experience make it easy for anybody to participate in the product lifecycle - designers, supply chain, or end customers.”

V6 delivers a single PLM platform for all PLM business processes, available to anybody, anywhere. V6 also gives intelligent access to all Intellectual Property no matter where the data source location.

Dassault Systemes will continue to develop CATIA V5 releases, whilst new products that address the sharing of digital data such as 3D Live and 3DVIA Composer will be based on the V6 platform and will integrate with CATIA V5.
