Intrinsys Support ITER Programme
by Mike Russell
ITER is a joint research and development project to demonstrate the scientific and technical feasibility of fusion power. In a fusion reaction, two light atomic nuclei fuse together to form heavier ones and release large amount of energy.

Fusion has some key features which make it an attractive option for the future, the fusion process is inherently safe, does not create harmful waste, produces no greenhouse gases and can be used for large scale energy production.
Intrinsys recently attended an event “ITER Business Opportunities for UK Industry”, where it was announced that CATIA had been selected as the design software of choice for the ITER project. This prestigious programme brings enormous challenges along with associated potential benefits in the ability to capture and share knowledge and also project and product data, over global distances.
The first CATIA based project work has commenced on the layout and construction of the new reactor facility with subsequent partners coming online over the coming year.
Intrinsys are the UK Business Development Partner for IBM / Dassault, with sole responsibility in the UK for supporting companies within this industry with CAD and data management software and associated methodologies and services. In addition to this, Intrinsys also specialise in Project and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) for discrete design and engineering businesses.
The successful deployment of CAD and PDM software technologies and methodologies, will greatly affect the profit and future success of all work undertaken on the ITER programme. With this in mind, Intrinsys are forming a Knowledge Capture and Project Lifecycle Management group for ITER participants, with the goal of utilising best practises in electronic collaboration and methodologies, to improve both the opportunities to win business, and also increase profit over the lifetime of participation.
